One Dot Four will always strive to create by focusing on the essentials. Whether solving problems, uncovering a strategy, re-purposing an old technology, exploiting new materials or creating a new product, it will always be done with empathetic efficiency, with care, and with something extra, this is because we think differently.
Extracting a simple solution to a complex problem rarely comes from a light-bulb moment, or a pre ordained menu of rules or questions. The start for a great solution may be a five minute conversation but great result require thought, expertise and hard work. There is no short cut to a well resolved outcome.
Our mission will always be to eliminate the unnecessary within a design by removing those elements which are redundant. In our pursuit of less, we will always contribute more thought, more experimentation and investigation , more work and reflection to find the essence in each new piece of work. That’s just what we do, and what we like to do.
Process
Process can’t always be a set structure and each scenario demands a tailored approach. There are a number of place markers that govern our way of doing things. Over 40 years of experiences has developed a process which is as part structure, part instinct and experience. For example our work might starts with a research based initial response, followed by development to agreed criteria and then production of an output and its story.

Data gathering, rejected hypotheses and clear well reasoned concept responses.

Develop.
Testing ideas, solving technical problems and getting things made to prove the concept.

Produce.
Creating the instruction which will result in a well designed repeatable product.

Finish.
Finishing touches. Even the most intuitive designs can die if there story is not properly told.

About Phidias and Sabrina
Award winning, innovative and skilful designers and educators.
Having worked as an industrial designer for over 25 years Phidias has successfully completed over 1000 commercial design projects. Projects range from quick turn around customisations to volume mass manufacture. Outcomes span workplace strategy, furniture design and manufacture, ergonomic accessories, product strategy and industrial product design and styling.
Accomplished educator , textiles expert and project manager. Sabrina has MA level degrees in both Furniture Design and in Leading Innovation and Change. With over 20 years experience in design and education, not much gets past her keen eye.
As a studio we don’t just understand how things can be made, we help our clients recognise possibilities and are always ready to guide them on the journey.
Our goal is to build partnerships. Fundamental to our personality is that we listen first, assess and respond. Our belief is that without empathy we are nothing.
